In December 2023, the Biological Sample Bank of Zhejiang Cancer Hospital officially obtained the Certificate of Biological Sample Bank Accreditation (BB0015) issued by the China National Accreditation Service for Conformity Assessment (CNAS), becoming the 15th accredited biospecimen bank organization, and the second biospecimen bank in Zhejiang to obtain this accreditation.<\/p>\n

The international standard ISO 20387 General Requirements for Biospecimen Repositories was officially released in August 2019.On August 30, 2019, the State Administration for Market Supervision and Regulation (the National Standardization Administration) issued Chinese National Standard Bulletin No. 10 of 2019, approving GB\/T 37864-2019 General Requirements for Biospecimen Repositories Quality and Competence <\/i><\/span> (Equivalent to the adoption of ISO 20387:2018) national standard released for implementation.2021 China National Accreditation Service for Conformity Assessment (abbreviation: CNAS), the authoritative organization for national accreditation and evaluation activities, has formulated the Guidelines for the Accreditation of Biological Sample Banks for Quality and Competence CNAS-CL10 based on the above standard, and has begun to carry out the work of accreditation of biosample banks for quality and competence, which is aimed at enhancing the work of all parties on the preservation of biospecimens It contains requirements for the construction of biospecimen repositories. These requirements enable biobanks to confirm that they are competent to operate as biobanks and have the ability to provide biospecimens and related data of the quality required for research and development. more than 10 biobanking organizations have been accredited in more than three years. The construction of these biobanks is at the forefront of human genetic resources conservation organizations in China.<\/section>\n

The consultant team has an in-depth understanding of the current operation of each department of the biobank, on the basis of which it clarifies the characteristics of the workflow and business of each department, combines with the management basis and background of the organization of the biobank, and carries out a special study, planning and design of the management system of the biobank in accordance with the requirements of the standard. The consultant team, together with the biobanking team, designed and established a biobanking quality management system based on the ISO20387 standard, set up the quality policy and objectives of the biobanking organization, and formulated and prepared four levels of quality management system documents, including the management manual, procedure documents <\/i><\/span> and working documents, etc. More than 300 documents and records were prepared. Subsequently, the Biobank’s accreditation consultant team assisted the Biobank to start the trial operation of the system, adopting the “one-on-one” coaching mode to follow up and review all aspects of the Biobank’s operation and to check the gaps and make up for the deficiencies. Despite the impact of the epidemic, the consultant team still successfully completed all the work during the one-year trial operation stage, and helped the biobank to continuously improve the quality management system and complete the assessment, so that the biobank entered the formal accreditation application stage at the end of 2022.
